How to Crochet a Hammock
Relaxing in a handcrafted hammock is one of the simple pleasures of the summer season. Making your own hammock creates that perfect oasis. Crocheting this hammock with polypropylene macrame cord gives the fabric a comfortable softness without giving up outdoor durability and strength. Redwood or treated lumber lengthen the life of your hammock with their ability to guard off weather damage.

Continue to crochet in this pattern until the hammock length is 72 inches long. Chain one and turn the work. Crochet two rows of single crochet into every stitch the same as the first two rows.

Crochet eight chain stitches and turn. Skip the next two stitches and single crochet into the next stitch. Crochet eight chain stitches, skip two stitches and single crochet into the next. Continue this pattern across the end of the hammock. Cut the cord, leaving 4 inches on the hammock.

Crochet a slip-stitch into the first stitch of the other end of the hammock. Working across, crochet eight chain stitches, skip two stitches and single crochet into the next. Continue this pattern in the same manner as before. Cut the cord, leaving 4 inches on the hammock. Work all ends into the stitches to hide with the crochet hook. This pattern crocheted onto either end of the hammock forms loops to secure the crocheted fabric to the two wooden supports.

7
Drill a hole through each end of both pieces of wood, 1 inch from the end. These holes should be large enough to fit two cords through. Slide the crocheted loops onto the wooden supports on either end.

Cut four 8-foot pieces of cord. Fold two pieces of cord in half. Insert the loop ends through one of the metal rings. Insert the cord ends through the loops and pull tight. Separate the cords in half. Thread two cords through each hole on one wooden support. Pull the cord through and tie an overhand knot. Repeat this process with the two remaining cords for the other end of the hammock.
