How to Select a Vendor for a New Service Product or Service
If you own or manage a business, there are times when you must select a vendor for a new service product or service you offer. Many businesses often wonder how they should go about doing this. When a business chooses a new vendor, there are several key things the business should look at. Several of these factors include price, quality and reliability of the products or services the vendor offers.

1
Make a list. Determine what you are looking for in a vendor. Write down the requirements that must be met in order for you to hire a particular vendor to provide the service you need.
-
2
Write down the potential vendors. The easiest way to find various vendors that offer the service or product you need is to search for them online. If you have business contacts that use similar vendors, you can also ask them what companies they use and what their opinions are about these companies. The more potential vendors you can find, the better your chances will be for finding one that best suits your needs.

3
Create a request for proposal (RFP) and send one to each possible vendor. A RFP provides important details to vendors regarding your company and your company's needs. Vendors can read the RFP and determine if they would like to write a proposal or not. To do this, a vendor will determine if the services he offers are what you are looking for. The vendor must also determine if he can completely meet your needs. If he cannot, he should not bid for the job. Be sure to include a deadline for vendors to return their proposals by.
-
4
Review the proposals. After receiving the proposals, you should carefully review each one. By looking carefully through them, you will be able to see which vendors suit your company's needs the best.
-
5
Choose the best one. Keep in mind that you want a vendor that will provide exactly what you need at a good price. Many proposals you receive might have references included. Ask the references what their opinions are and do your best to choose the best overall vendor from all of the proposals and references.
