How to Get Sponsorship to Attend an Event
Events and conferences are held on a variety of topics, often inviting individuals and small business owners to go for educational and networking opportunities. Companies will often provide sponsorship for attendance at these events. These sponsorships typically cover admission costs and travel expenses. Sponsorship is a great way to get out and increase your own name and brand recognition, but unless you are already a well-known entity, companies most likely will not approach you first. You must be proactive in seeking sponsorship to attend events.

Contact companies you know are attending the event. Because they are going, you already know they are interested in the event topic and have a vested interest in reaching as many people as possible. Explain that you are planning to attend and ask if a partnership can be worked out. Offer to assist the company as a brand representative at the event by talking about the company to other attendees. Some sponsors may ask you to hand out information or wear clothing featuring their brand.

Contact companies you believe may be interested in the event. These companies may not be attending but may want to send someone to be present at the event for them. You may act as a brand representative or simply report back to the company about the event.

Contact event coordinators. They may be able to inform you of companies open to sponsoring event attendees. Though it is rare, event coordinators may set up a sponsorship without you needing to do anything.

Tips & Warnings
Company sponsors are looking to get something out of you. They are not just going to let a person attend an event on their dime without getting something in return. Tell them you are willing to work at an expo booth representing the company. Offer to speak on the company's behalf. If you blog, tell the company you will write a recap on the event and will mention the company's sponsorship. Always think of how your attendance at the event will benefit your prospective sponsor.
