How to Use a Serger Binder Attachment BLE8 Evolve

The Babylock BLE8 Evolve serger can make attaching bias tape to a sewing project easy. Sergers stitch, cut and bind a seam so that it won't ravel. Bias tape also binds a seam and hides the edges by encasing it in a piece of fabric cut on the diagonal of the grain, so that it stretches. The serger comes with a bias binder attachment that feeds and folds the bias tape into the presser foot, where it is stitched to the fabric edge. The attachment comes in two widths. The BLE8-S3 attachment handles light-weight bias tape of 1 1/8 inches and medium-weight bias tape of 1 inch. The BLE8-S2 handles light-weight bias tape of 1 3/8 inches and medium-weight bias tape of 1 ¼ inches.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut bias tape to your chosen length and width.

    • 2

Test the fabric and bias tape together to make sure everything is aligned properly before stitching your project together.

    • 3

Secure the binder attachment to the serger with the guide-fixing screws, located on the needle plate of the machine.

    • 4

Raise the presser foot. Thread the pointed end of the bias tape into the attachment with the tweezers.

    • 5

Thread the folded bias tape under the presser foot to the needles.

    • 6

Turn the hand wheel a few times to secure the stitches in the bias tape.

    • 7

Place the fabric receiving the binding into the slot on the attachment. Place the folded bias in front of the presser foot so that the two pieces of fabric move through the presser foot together.

    • 8

Loosen the guide-fixing screws and adjust the attachment right or left to align the attachment with the needle position.

    • 9

      Stitch the two fabrics together.
