How to Make a Tidal Wave Friendship Bracelet
Friendship bracelets use colorful strings, known as floss string, to create braided patterns to be worn on the wrist of a friend or loved one. While many friendship bracelet patterns yield straight braids, the tidal wave braid yields a bracelet that creates an undulating wave-like shape. While the wave may seem like a difficult braid at first blush, it requires only the ability to tie basic stitches, and can be tied quicker than other basic braids like diagonal bars or chevrons, as it requires fewer knots.

1
Hold the five strands of floss side-by-side, with the three strands used to make the wave in the third, fourth and fifth from left positions, and two additional strands of any color, as they will not be seen, in the two leftmost positions. These left strings are the core strings.
-
2
Tie a knot with all five strands, approximately 2 inches from the end of the strings.
-
-
3
Cross the middle string over the right core string, and then wrap the string behind the core string and through the loop formed. Pull tight, then repeat a second time and lay the string down between the two core strings.
-
4
Tie the same string around the left core string, using the same double knot pattern, and then lay the string down as the new leftmost string.
-
5
Repeat the stitches with the second wave string, the string second-from-right, tying a double knot around the right core strand, and then the left core strand.
-
6
Tie the rightmost string around each core strand individually, so the three braiding strings have now moved to the left of the core strands.
-
7
Braid each braiding string back across the two core strands to the right, starting with the rightmost braiding string, then the middle braiding string, and finally the leftmost braiding string.
-
8
Continue braiding, first passing all three cords to the left, then all three cords to the right, until your bracelet is as long as desired.
-
9
Tie a knot with all five strings after the last weave.
-
10
Wrap the bracelet around the wearer's wrist and tie the two sets of loose ends together to secure the bracelet.
