Necktie onesies can be given as personalized gifts to expectant moms.

When your little one needs to look dapper, a necktie onesie is the perfect way to bring a business look to the baby stage. These fun outfits allow children to look like they're wearing a necktie without learning all of those pesky knots at such an early age. Simply apply a tie-shaped cutout to a onesie, and the child is left styling in comfort!

Instructions

    • 1

Select a plain, single-color onesie in the correct size for the baby who will be wearing the outfit. Choose a fabric for the tie that coordinates with the color of the onesie.

    • 2

Lay the onesie on a flat surface and record how far it is from the neck of the onesie to three-quarters of the way down the front of the outfit. This will be the length of the tie.

    • 3

Trace the outline of a tie on a piece of blank card stock. The tip of the tie should coordinate with the measurements you took for the 3/4-length mark on the onesie. Lay the onesie over the card stock and trace the neckline of the onesie so that the top of the tie contours to the neck shape. Cut out the tie shape.

    • 4

Lay the card stock cutout on the back side of the necktie fabric. Trace the outline onto the fabric and carefully cut out the fabric tie with a 1/4-inch margin around all sides.

    • 5

Fold the edges of the tie in approximately 1/4 inch around the entire perimeter of the tie to create a straight, clean edge when looking at the patterned side of the fabric. Iron the creases in place to create a defined fold.

    • 6

Place the tie on the front center of the onesie and pin it into place. Sew a straight seam around the outer edge of the tie outline, all the way around the tie, to finish your baby businessman look!

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure that the entire tie is sewn to the onesie to prevent loose fabric from becoming a choking hazard.
