How to Make Your Hair Lighter Using Peroxide
While some sit out in the sun or take a dip in a chlorinated pool to lighten their hair a few shades, you can achieve the same effect using household hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide is a common ingredient in many hair lightening and dyeing products, so you can apply it at home without worry of excessive damage to your hair or scalp. Mix hydrogen peroxide and warm water in a plastic spray bottle using a one-to-one ratio. Wet your hair thoroughly and then pat with a towel until damp.

Spray a light mist of solution onto your hair. If you only wish to lighten a certain part of your hair, part your follicles as needed and secure with a hair tie.

Comb the solution into your hair and allow it to set for 15 to 20 minutes. As your hair dries, you should begin to notice the emerging highlights. To achieve a lighter shade, rinse your hair thoroughly and repeat Step 2.

Lather your hair thoroughly with your preferred shampoo and rinse completely. Follow with a cream conditioner and allow it to sit in your hair for several minutes. Rinse completely.

Tips & Warnings
To preserve your hair's lightness, re-apply the peroxide solution every few weeks.
Label your spray bottle of solution to avoid confusing it with a cleaning product.
Avoid using the peroxide solution if there are any open cuts or sores on your head. Do not allow the solution to drip onto your face or into your eyes.
