How to Capture Weld Slag in a Pipe
Welding is a way of joining two pipes together, forming a long-lasting bond. However, welding results in the creation of slag, an unsightly welding by-product that does nothing to contribute to the strength of the bond. Working with a high-quality, flux-cored wire ensures that slag will fall off the inside of your pipe. But to be sure, you should use a narrow chipping hammer to knock the slag off the inside of your pipe.

1
Place your pipe on top of a shallow tub, to collect the slag that falls out of your pipe.
-
2
Lightly tap the outside of your pipe around the surface of your weld. The majority of the slag from inside your pipe will fall out.

Insert your chipping hammer into your pipe, and lightly tap at the weld point. Any remaining slag should fall out.
