Streamlined shoulders are part of the slim-fit look.

A good suit is a stylish and versatile part of any man's wardrobe. Suits are necessary for social or professional events or day-to-day work, fancy outings to dinner or the opera, and formal occasions such as weddings or funerals. A slim-fitting suit that fits the contours of the body more closely has a clean, tailored look. You can alter a suit to your proportions and save money by not having to buy a new one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Have someone else (preferably a tailor) measure your chest, arms, inseam, waist and neck.

    • 2

Take in the shoulders to make them fit more closely to the body. Get rid of shoulder pads if the suit has them.

    • 3

Take in the jacket so there's only about a fist-sized distance between you and the jacket.

    • 4

Streamline the seat of your pants so that there is no excess fabric. Be careful not to take in too much fabric, or the pants will cling too tightly.

    • 5

Complement the tapered appearance of the suit with a skinny tie. Thin ties (about two inches in width) are in fashion and accentuate the slimness of the overall look.
