How to Get Something Flagged on Craigslist

Craigslist relies heavily on its online community to remove posts that violate the Craigslist Terms of Use. A single flag does not get a post removed, however, because it would be too easy for sellers to wean out the competition by flagging other ads. Therefore, a post must receive multiple flags for the flagging to be legitimized, and the post removed. If you feel a matter is particularly urgent, you may also contact the help desk and inform them directly of the issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your Internet browser to find the Craigslist ad in question.

    • 2

Click one of the flagging links at the top right above the post. You can click "Miscategorized," "Prohibited" or "Spam/Overpost," depending on the reason you want the ad flagged. Your contribution to the flagging system is immediately entered.

    • 3

Look at the numeric portion of the post's URL. This is the unique identifier. Write this number down. For example, you might see "http://sfbay.craigslist.org/zip/0000000000.html" in the top address bar, so you would write down "0000000000," which allows you to refer to the post when you contact the help desk.

    • 4

Go to the Craigslist home page, click "Help" in the left column and click the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. Describe the issue in detail and make sure to include the identifier. Click "Send Email Message" to submit your complaint.
