Resident and business addresses are public records in the United States. Locating a home or business address became easier in recent years with many new online options such as searchable property records, Google maps, social networking sites and people searching. In addition, GPS systems have simplified the search for people. You can find nearly anyone or any business in the United States; it just may take some time.

How to Find a Resident Address

Look in your local phone book or search the White Pages online. You may find the person you are looking for or a relative you can call to find the address.

Look the address up in the city directory. A city directory is a list of home and business addresses. Many directories have been compiled online at the U.S. City Directories website. Visit a local library for cities that do not publish their city directories electronically.

Conduct a reverse phone search through an online directory. If you have the person's phone number, but forgot her name, you can search for an address by typing her home phone number into a search box.

Join a social networking site. Some resident addresses and phone numbers are unlisted and you may have difficulty finding this information. Yet, if you find the person online, you can send her a private message or email requesting her address.

Contact your county assessor's office for property descriptions. The clerk can give you a property description, which provides the home owner's name and address. These records may also be available online.

Pay a website to conduct a search of public records for you. These sites gather public background information, including addresses, for a fee.

How to Find a Business Address

Search the local phone book in print or online.

Type the business name into search engine. Google Maps provides addresses, phone numbers, and driving directions.

Use a GPS system to determine latitude and longitude of your location. Use a reverse geocoding website to find the business address.

Dial 411 on your cell phone for an operator to find a business address for you. Provide as much information as you can, including the business name and city. The operator will narrow down the options and give an address to the business.

Conduct a search for the business's website. Most business have their contact information or locations listed on their site for their costumers.
