How to Encrypt & Decrypt

You can secure any information inside files or folders on your hard drive by applying file encryption. If you are using Windows 7, you can encrypt files or folders using a feature called the Encrypting File System. Once encrypted, you can only access the file or folder from the user account that you used to encrypt the file. This feature also allows you to decrypt any files or folders that have already been encrypted.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click a file of folder. Select the "Properties" option at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

    • 2

Select "General" on the top of the file properties dialog box.

    • 3

      Click on "Advanced."

    • 4

Check "Encrypt Contents to Secure Data" and click "OK" to encrypt the file. Uncheck this option and click "OK" to decrypt the file.
