Natural Ways to Get Rid of Pigmentation
Melanin is the pigment in skin that gives it its color. If your body produces an excess of melanin you may experience pigmentation problems, such as melasma and sun, age or liver spots. Pigmentation problems can be triggered by frequent exposure to ultraviolet rays, by certain medications, such as antibiotics and by diseases, such as Addison's disease. The discolored areas of your skin stand out and can affect your self-esteem. Instead of resorting to laser surgery or expensive over-the counter and prescription topical solutions, consider trying home remedies to eliminate excess pigmentation. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Juice half a lemon. Wet a cotton ball with the lemon juice and dab it onto the discolored skin. The acid in lemon juice naturally exfoliates the upper layer of skin and has a bleaching affect on darkened areas. Wash the lemon juice off your face after 15 minutes, or let the juice dry on your face without rinsing it off. Apply the lemon juice remedy twice a day. Rub the inside of a lemon on your face as a quick alternative.

2
Slice a red onion. Rub the inside of a slice of onion on your face. The vitamin C in the onion's juice helps bleach darker skin areas.

3
Apply plain yogurt to dark areas on your face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash the yogurt off your face with lukewarm water. Yogurt contains alpha hydroxy acids which naturally lighten skin.

4
Wash your face with milk. Milk contains lactic acid which has a peeling affect on your skin. Additionally, the fat in milk moisturizes your skin.

Apply an almond and honey face mask to lighten up blotchy skin. Place 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1 tsp. milk powder and 1 tsp honey in a bowl. Add 1/2 tsp. almond oil and mix the ingredients. Apply the mixture on your face with clean fingers. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes. Aside from lightening pigmentation, this mask also gives your face a healthy glow.
