Instructions

    • 1

Select three or four different colors of craft string to make your friendship bracelet. The more colors you use, the thicker the bracelet will be.

    • 2

Cut one string of each color you've chosen. The length should be about the same length from fingertips to shoulder of the person who will be wearing the bracelet.

    • 3

Hold the strings so that they are all even in length, and tie a tight loop knot at the top. Be sure to leave about one to 2 inches of string above the knot to tie later.

    • 4

Secure the string to a flat surface using scotch tape applied above the knot. Separate the strings on your work surface, and arrange the colors to your liking.

    • 5

Pick up the string on the far left, and cross over the string to the right, forming a shape that resembles the closed number four.

Insert the first string through the loop you created, and pull the string upwards until the loop closes at the top of the bracelet near the knot. Be sure to hold the second string down so that the loop remains the color of the first string.

    • 7

Make another loop in the same manner with the same two strings to form a knot at the top of bracelet in the color of the first string you started with on the left. The first color should now rest to the right of the other string used to tie the knot on.

    • 8

Pick up the first string, and repeat the process of two loops to form a knot using the first color and the next string to the right.

    • 9

Continue tying knots with the first string and each string to the right until you have tied knots onto all the other strings. The string you started with should now be to the far right of the other strings, and you should see a row of two to three knots of the same color.

    • 10

Turn the bracelet over, and check the back to make sure the knots are tied tightly. Push the knots up with your fingernail if the colors of the other strings are visible through the knots.

    • 11

Start another row of knots using the string farthest to the left, and proceed to tie on knots, working left to right until another row is completed.

    • 12

Continue creating rows of knots with the other colors until you have reached the desired length of your bracelet.

    • 13

Tie a loop knot at the bottom to secure and complete the bracelet. Cut off excess string, leaving an inch or two to tie the bracelet on your wrist.
