How to Make a Sailor Wand
The anime and manga series "Sailor Moon" features otherworldly princesses who fight evil on Earth. In the Japanese version of the series, the lead character's first weapon is called a "Moon Stick." The English version changes the "Moon Stick" to a "Crescent Moon Wand." Make your own Sailor Wand to put on display and admire as a fan of the series. Or use the wand as a cosplay accessory when you dress up as Sailor Moon.

Instructions

1
Print out an image of Sailor Moon's wand to use as a reference. Alternatively, leave a browser window open to an image of the wand or locate an image of the wand on any of the "Sailor Moon" merchandise you have.
-
2
Glue pink construction paper to the entirety of the sides of the paper towel tube. The tube will act as the bulk of the wand's handle.
-
-
3
Cut a strip of yellow construction paper 6 inches in length and 1 inch in height. Glue this strip at the bottom of the pink paper towel tube. This forms part of the yellow tip of the wand.
-
4
Trace the opening of the paper towel tube on the yellow poster board lightly with a pencil. Cut out the yellow circle. Glue the yellow circle to the bottom of the tube and cover the opening. When you glue the circle to the tube, tuck the edges inside the tube.
-
5
Wrap the small bottle cap with yellow construction paper. Pull the ends together under the bottom of the cap. Glue the paper to the cap. Glue the cap, bottom side up, to the bottom of the tube over the yellow circle of poster board you added to the end.
-
6
Cover the large bottle cap with yellow construction paper. Wrap the cap and glue the paper to the cap.
-
7
Trace the edge of the large bottle cap on the pink construction paper. Roll the bottle cap across the paper in one complete circle and trace the edges of the cap. This will give you an idea of the thickness you need to cut. Cut the strip of pink construction paper and glue it to the edge of the large bottle cap.
-
8
Tie two small bows with the yellow ribbon. Glue the first bow to the middle of one side of the large bottle cap, and the other bow to the same spot on the other side of the cap. Stick one large pink jewel sticker over the middle of the bow on each side.
-
9
Glue the large bottle cap into the top opening of the paper tube. Add a dab of glue at approximately the positions of the "four" and the "eight" on the cap if the cap were a clock face. The cap will sit partially in the opening but will mostly sit outside of the opening. This makes the jeweled medallion that rests near the top of the wand.
-
10
Trace a crescent moon on the yellow poster board. Make the length of moon, from one pointed tip to the other, approximately two-thirds the length of the paper towel tube. Cut the crescent moon shape out of the yellow poster board.
-
11
Trace the yellow poster board moon shape on the poster board again. Cut a second crescent moon out of the yellow poster board.
-
12
Cut a 2-inch strip of yellow poster board approximately 16 inches in length. Lay one crescent moon shape down. Place one edge of the strip standing upright along the outline of the moon shape. Bend the strip as necessary to make it fit the outline. Cut off any excess strip. Glue the edge to the crescent moon shape. Lay the other crescent moon shape atop the exposed edge of the strip and glue the moon and edge together. This is the tip of the crescent moon wand. Allow the glue to dry.
-
13
Apply glue to the top of the wand and the bottom of the crescent moon. Press together and allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings
Embellish the wand with small extra jewel stickers. These extra jewels are not present on Sailor Moon's wand, but they add your own personal touch to the item.
Swap the paper towel tube for a PVC pipe if you want a sturdier wand.
Paint the bottle caps yellow instead of gluing construction paper to them if you like.
Do not abuse your wand. The item will be fairly fragile. Take glue with you to events at which you wear a "Sailor Moon" costume for quick wand fixes.
