How to Make a Favicon in CS5
Adobe Photoshop CS5 is an advanced image editing software used by professionals around the world. It does not, however, natively support the creation of "favicon" files because it cannot save Windows icon files. Favicon pictures are small icons visible in the corner of a website's tab or window within your browser. Fortunately, you can create a favicon in Photoshop CS5 by installing a plug-in.
Instructions

1
Download the Photoshop icon plugin from the Telegraphics website. Open the ZIP file and click on "Extract All Files." Unzip the folder to your desktop.

3
Open the "Photoshop CS5" folder, then open the "Plug-ins" folder.

4
Open the "File Format" folder. Click on and drag the "ICOformat.8bi" file you saved to your desktop into the "File Format" folder. This allows you to save ICO files.
-
5
Open Photoshop CS5. Click on "File" then "New." Select the image size as 16 by 16 pixels. Choose your background color. If you want the favicon to have a transparent background, select "Transparent."
-
6
Use the brush or text tool to create your custom favicon. If you want to import an image or icon to use as the favicon, click on "File" then "Open." Select the image. Click on "Select" then "All." Click on "Edit" then "Copy." Close the new image to return to the first one.
-
7
Click on "Edit" then "Paste" to paste the image as a new layer. Hit "Ctrl" and the "T" key to resize the layer, if desired. Click on the corners of the layer and resize it to the desired dimensions.
-
8
Click on "File" then select "Save As." Choose the file format as "ICO" and name your file "favicon."
-
9
Upload the image to the root directory of your website, and then add the following code to your site. Make sure the code is between the opening (<head>) and closing (</head>) tags.
