How to Troubleshoot a Frigidaire Dishwasher That Just Stopped

Frigidaire dishwashers use many different cycles to clean your dishes. If the dishwasher stops in the middle of a wash cycle or the timer does not appear to be advancing, the dishwasher may be preparing for the next portion of the cycle. If the dishwasher does not resume the cycle after a prolonged period of time, a few troubleshooting steps may led you to a quick diagnosis of the problem, perhaps one you can easily repair yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door, then securely close it, ensuring that it latches. Sometimes, if the door latch is not completely seated when the door is initially closed, the cycle will start, but will be interrupted with any movement of the door. The door must be securely latched for the cycle to function.

    • 2

Check the dishwasher circuit breaker in your service panel to determine if the breaker has tripped. Sometimes, a jolt of electricity will cause the breaker to trip, cutting power to the dishwasher. If the breaker has tripped, a red square is visible beside the breaker. Reset the breaker by turning it to the "Off" position and then turning it to the "On" position.

Allow the dishwasher time to continue, even if it appears as though it has stalled. Some cycles, such as as sanitizing cycles, require extremely hot water temperatures. To obtain these temperatures, the dishwasher pauses while it heats the water. While the dishwasher is paused, it may appear that it isn't functioning, however, it is in fact performing properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If these three steps do not solve your problem, a service technician certified to repair your model dishwasher is required to diagnose and repair your appliance.
