1
Choose the correct type of razor. If the facial hair growth is fairly recent and short in length, choose an electric razor or shaver. Electric shavers cut through facial hair quicker than manual razors and no skin lubricant is required. This cuts down on time spent shaving and cleaning up. Plug in the razor, turn it on and move it over your goatee. Use a manual razor if you do not have access to an electric razor.

2
Trim extra long goatee growth with scissors. Use scissors to trim the hair before shaving if you have thick facial hair growth. This will save time and prevent your razor from getting clogged with facial hair.

3
Place a steaming towel over your face. Lay a steaming towel over the goateed area of your face. The steam opens the pores and softens the bristles of goatee hair making them easier to cut. Remove the towel after several minutes.

4
Apply shaving lubricant. Apply lubricant directly onto the skin prior to shaving if using a manual razor. By doing this you will ensure optimal results and a close shave. Failing to properly lubricate your skin with either shaving gel or foam can result in skin rashes or cuts.
-
5
Shave the goatee off. Move the razor over the goateed area in a downward motion so that the razor blades remove the hair from your face. Never shave against the direction of your stubble because this can cut your skin and cause skin irritation.
-
6
Wipe shaving lubricant off your face. Use water to rinse excess shaving lubricant from your face. Use a towel to dry the water and wipe off any remaining lubricant.
