How to Make a Starfish Corsage
Making a starfish corsage is an attractive way to coordinate with a beach or sea-inspired theme at a wedding, prom or other special occasion. Corsages are relatively expensive to buy for many people and they typically only last one night if arrangement contains fresh flowers. A homemade corsage enables you to pick your flowers, colors and other accoutrements. It is also a frugal way to prepare for a special occasion, particularly if you are making corsages for many women in a wedding party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Cut the flower stems with wire cutters so that they only have a stem or 2 or 3 inches. You need only two or three flowers since the starfish takes up the majority of the space.
-
2
Wrap florist tape around the stems of the flowers. Overlap it slightly as you wind it down the stem. Start at the top underneath the flower head and end at the bottom of the stem. Cut the tape and press it in place on the stem end. Florist tape sticks to itself.

3
Add statice, baby's breath, other small filler flowers or greenery to the wrapped flowers. Place them side by side with the wrapped flowers. Position one or two of the larger flowers at different heights to create interest.
-
4
Wrap all the stems together with more florist tape.
-
5
Fold the fish net or fabric netting in half and lay it out flat on a work surface. Position the flowers in the center of the netting.
-
6
Glue the starfish to the wrapped stems with a low-temperature glue gun. Do this up near the top of the flower stems, but so the starfish does not cover most of the flowers. Allow the hot glue about 30 seconds to dry.
-
7
Gather the netting underneath the starfish and around the flower stems. Twist it in place around the stems by using an 8-inch piece of florist wire.
-
8
Snip the ends of the florist wire near the corsage so they do not show. Attach the corsage to the garment with a corsage pin.
