How to Make an Emo Hairstyle Out of a Weave
A musical genre with roots in the punk movement, "emo" -- short for "emotional" -- is considered "punk with emotion." An accompanying style if dress has sprung up around the music. Emo fashion features lots of black, including black-rimmed glasses and skinny jeans. The emo haircut is an essential part of the look. It includes chunky layers, fringe or side-swept bangs and usually black hair dye. Create an emo cut on a weave as a costume piece or for an instant hair makeover. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place the weave on a wig stand or mannequin head. Comb it out thoroughly to remove any tangles.
-
2
Brush out the sections of hair in the front of the weave to create choppy bangs. Hold the pieces out toward you, and snip across the hair on an angle to create one side that is longer than the other, a common way to wear bangs in emo haircuts. You can cut the bangs straight across if you prefer.

3
Cut the sides and back of the weave in layers. Since emo cuts are choppy, there is really no wrong way to do this as long as you end up with choppy, uneven, layered hair. Keep some pieces long unless you are going for a shaggy bob look. You can also use a razor comb or straight razor to make layers choppy.

4
Cut the hair shorter at the top. Many emo cuts have short hair around the crown so a spiky look can be created with hair gel or other styling products. Be careful not to cut it too short, however.

5
Use a flat iron on the weave to straighten it if it is made from human hair. If you are using a synthetic weave, purchase one that is already straight. Using heat on synthetic weaves can damage them.
