Instructions

    • 1

Shampoo, condition and towel dry your hair. Use volumizing products for fine hair and smoothing products on thick hair.

    • 2

Apply a hair product, such as a heat-protectant spray or smoothing serum, to your hair, if desired. Follow the instructions on the product's label.

    • 3

Use a hairbrush made with natural bristles while you blow dry your hair completely. Point the nozzle of the blow dryer down while applying pressure with the brush to begin removing the waves from your hair.

    • 4

Plug in your flat iron and turn the device on to heat up. Adjust the heat setting depending on your hair's texture; choose a temperature no higher than 300 degrees Fahrenheit for fine hair, and go as high as 400 degrees for thick hair.

    • 5

Use hair clips to divide your hair into small sections, which makes flat ironing easier.

    • 6

Run the flat iron down each section smoothly and evenly to straighten your hair and lose your waves. For the middle and bottom sections of your hair, begin flat-ironing the sections 1/2 inch from the roots. For the top layer, position the flat iron close to your roots.

    • 7

Finish your straight style with shine spray, if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid using heat to style your hair on a regular or daily basis, as this can cause significant damage.

  • Exercise caution when working with a hot flat iron.
