How to Make Furniture in "Second Life"

"Second Life" combines elements of computer gaming, social interaction and virtual culture, particularly in the emergence of politics and economy. Luckily, anybody with a tasteful eye can make his way into the "Second Life" world through the creation of furniture and other goods that can then be sold to users. This creation is performed through the three-dimensional modeling tool available in the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a Sandbox, which are spread out across the world in "Second Life." Keep in mind that some sandboxes are damage-enabled, allowing characters to die and be teleported home, and others are adult-themed and are intended for users aged 18 and older.

    • 2

Place plywood blocks from the sandbox interface into the world. Right-click the ground and select "Create," choose one of the 15 available block shapes, and then choose a color. Click again on the sandbox to place it.

    • 3

Arrange the blocks however necessary to accomplish the look and functionality that you expect from your furniture. Click a block that you have generated to bring up arrows pointing out of each side of the box. The arrows move the box in that direction when clicked. Hold "Ctrl" to turn the arrows into rotation arrows, and click them to spin the block on its axis.

    • 4

Click each of the blocks to name them, for example, "Chairblock1," "Chairblock2." Select them all again and click "Return." This moves them into your inventory as one object.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sandboxes clear all blocks within them periodically to keep the space from becoming too cluttered. Scroll your mouse over a region to see when it will clear again so that you do not lose progress unexpectedly.
