Located the crack on your glass on either the interior or exterior of your house. If the crack is on the interior, that will eliminate it being cracked from a storm or flying debris.

Inspect the crack. Measure its length and width with a tape measure. Brush away any pieces of glass that are in the way with a small broom and look closely at the glass to determine how deep the crack is.

    • 3

Find the area on the crack where the object hit the glass. This spot will be much larger than the crack itself. Look at the indentation in the glass and search around the glass ---if it is on the outside of the house, look for a rock or other object close by.

Pick up any objects that are around the glass, if there is any, and compare them to the indentation in the glass until one matches up. If there are no objects around, the crack in the glass may have been caused by hail or a storm the previous night.
