1
Measure the width of the wooden cornice board; this will be attached last as it hides everything else, except, of course, the draped fabric. Make two pencil marks on the wall above the head of the bed to show where the edges of the cornice board will be.
-
2
Screw two L-shaped brackets into the wall--one on each pencil mark--to attach the cornice board.

3
Measure the depth of the wooden cornice board, and make another pencil mark on the wall to show this. Attach a curtain pole to the wall, approximately 2 inches above this mark. This way, when the cornice board is attached to the L-shaped brackets, it will hide the curtain pole while still allowing easy access to remove the fabric for washing.

Select the material for the canopy. Gossamer, shimmera and tulle are all suitable fabrics for draping. Gossamer is a lightweight, sheer fabric; shimmera is a lightweight, iridescent fabric; and tulle is finer than netting and even more lightweight than gossamer.
-
5
Measure the width of the curtain pole and add 6 to 8 inches to this measurement. Cut the material to the correct width. For the length, measure from the curtain pole to the floor, and cut the material to the appropriate length.
-
6
Sew a strip of heavier fabric along the top edge of the draping fabric; this creates a more solid material to punch holes into for hanging the fabric from the curtain rail. Alternatively, double the length of fabric required and simply drape it over the pole.
-
7
Attach the wooden cornice board to the L-shaped brackets to hide the curtain rail.
