How to Remove Hiss Using Microsoft Volume Control

You may notice a hissing sound coming from your speakers when running certain programs. This hissing sound is often caused by a system incompatibility with a program. Computers running the Microsoft operating system feature a built-in volume control tool to help eliminate sound problems. Access the volume control feature to remove the hiss sound from your computer.

      Click the "Speakers" icon located in the taskbar at the bottom-right of your screen in the notifications area. The vertical volume control appears.

      Click on the word "Mixer" at the bottom of the volume control to launch the Volume Mixer window.

      Under Applications, then System Sounds, drag the volume slider down until you have removed the hiss sound.

      Under Device, then Speakers, drag the volume slider down until you have removed any remaining hissing sound.

      Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the Volume Mixer window to save and exit the volume control settings.
