How to Customize YouTube Channel Background Dimensions

Background images are a good way to keep the appearance of your channel fresh and different. Since the amount of modules and content on your channel is configurable, channel dimensions tend to vary. In some cases, your image may be too short to span the vertical height of your page. In other cases, the focal point of your background image might be hidden behind a module. Changing the dimension of your background image can easily correct these kinds of problems. Use the Microsoft Paint tool to resize your image.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to where your YouTube background template is stored on your computer. Right-click the image and click "Edit." This opens it in Microsoft Paint. If you do not have a copy of the image on your computer, go to your YouTube channel. Right-click the channel background, and click "Save image as." This opens a Save dialog. Choose a Save location, and click "Save."

Click the "Resize" button located at the top of Paint, or press the "Ctrl" and "W" keys simultaneously. This opens a Resize and Skew dialog.

    • 3

Click the "Pixels" radio button. The current resolution of your image is provided in the "Horizontal" and "Vertical" fields.

Type a new width for your image in the "Horizontal" field, and type a new height in the "Vertical" field. You can also click to select the "Maintain aspect ratio" check box to keep the image's aspect ratio the same. Be aware that dramatically increasing the image size can reduce the overall sharpness of the image.
