How to Run FFDShow thumbnail
FFDShow decodes many popular video formats.

FFDShow is a DirectShow filter that is capable of decompressing many different video formats, including XVID, DIVX and WMV. The filter also supports most audio formats including ACE, OGG and MP3. Once it is installed, it runs in the background whenever a particular audio or video file needs it.

Instructions

      Download Microsoft Visual C++ from the Microsoft Download Center and then click "Run." The necessary files will install automatically.

      Download FFDShow from Afterdawn.com and click "Run" to begin the installation.

      Place a check mark by each component you want to install. If you are unsure, accept the default settings. Click "Next" to continue.

      Place a check mark by each additional option in the Additional Tasks dialog. Click "Next."

      Check "Use FFDShow Only in the Following Applications" in the Program Compatibility window for video. This limits FFDShow usage to applications known to be compatible.

      Input the same selections for Audio Compatibility and click "Next" twice.

      Remove the check marks by each configuration option and click "Finish." Each dialog can be accessed later in the Start menu.

      Double-click on a movie or music file that uses a format you checked during installation. A FFDShow icon displays in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.

Tips & Warnings

  • Right-clicking the FFDShow icon will open up additional options, such as subtitle support.
