Open up your "Messages" or "Text Message" center on your phone. Select "Create New" or "New Message."

Access the symbol icons on your phone via the keypad. You may have to select the "Alt" button or go through "Options" on your phone.

Insert the "=" sign as the first symbol. This will represent the top of the cowboy hat.
