How to Make a JPEG in Gimp

The GNU Image Manipulation Program, commonly called GIMP, is a free graphics software application that performs many of the same functions as expensive graphics programs such as Photoshop. When you save a file in GIMP, the program saves it with the extension .xcf, which is a special file format that application uses. If you want to save your file in a more common format, such as JPEG, you can accomplish this using the "Save As" command.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the GIMP program. Click "File" and choose "New," then click "OK" to create a new image. Use the GIMP toolbox to create whatever image you want to make into a JPEG. Alternatively, you can choose "Open" from the "File" menu and select an existing image to use.

Click "File" at the top of the screen. Choose "Save As" from the list of items and the Save Image window appears.
