How to Whiten Yellow Shirts
A clean white shirt supplies a must-have staple item for any wardrobe. However, yellow stains from perspiration, dirt, and aging can ruin the look of your favorite white shirt and give the appearance of looking unkempt. Spray a solution of vodka and water onto the stains. Allow to sit for 1 hour before washing.

Pay attention to a shirt's tag regarding washing instructions. If the garment says, "Dry Clean Only," heed the warning and have the shirt dry cleaned each time it's worn or soiled. For whites safe to launder at home, wash in as hot of water as permitted by the clothing's tag.

Add a scoop of OxiClean to your load of laundry. Mix a cup of warm water with a scoop of OxiClean and scrub the mixture into the stains with an old toothbrush. Let the shirt sit for several hours and launder.

Soak the garment in a mixture of white vinegar and cold water for large stains, or pour white vinegar directly over smaller stains. Rub the vinegar into the problem areas. For tough stains, also rub the area with coarse salt. Lay the garment in the sun to dry and follow by laundering.

Mix 4 tbsp. baking soda with 1/4 cup water to form a paste. Scrub the paste into the stains with an old toothbrush. Allow it to sit for an hour before washing.
