How to Cleanse a DZI

Dzi beads, pronounced "zee," are prized for their spiritual powers, especially in Asian and Tibetan cultures. Traditionally, Dzi beads are composed of agates that are adorned with designs including ovals, zig zags, lines, diamonds dots and squares. In order to reap the bead's spiritual healing benefits, it must be cleansed, especially after the bead is obtained, to release its trapped powers. This cleansing is also performed once a month to maintain the Dzi's mystical powers.

Instructions

  1. Water Cleansing

    • 1

Hold your Dzi bead in your hands. Place the bead under running water from a faucet or spigot. If possible, place your hands into the running water of a river or stream.

    • 2

Allow the Dzi bead to remain for 10 to 15 seconds before removing it, and gently dry it off with a soft towel. Do not use any abrasives on the Dzi stone to prevent scratches.

    • 3

Hold the Dzi stone between your hands and ask it to bring creativity, happiness and positive spiritual energies into your life.

    Moonlight Cleansing

    • 4

Dig a hole into soft earth that is large enough to accommodate your Dzi bead. While removing the earth and throughout the entire process, think positive thoughts.

    • 5

Place the Dzi stone directly into the earth and refill the hole. Place a rock or another marker to remind you where the stone is buried.

    • 6

Allow the stone to remain overnight. The moon's energy will recharge and cleanse the Dzi stone.

    • 7

Remove the Dzi stone from the earth, rinse off any dirt with plain water and dry the stone with a soft cloth.
