How to Make a Origami Pet
A origami pet makes a great companion for would-be pet owners who aren't ready for the responsibility. It makes no difference to your paper pet whether you are at work or on vacation, or just at home in your apartment with a strict "no pets" policy --- these creatures are welcome almost anywhere. Your aunt with the fine furniture won't mind if it sits on her couch, and your sister with cat allergies won't even need her medication. Most conveniently, you can make origami pets almost anywhere from any two square sheets of paper, crafting a single pet for yourself, or several in different sizes and colors to share with friends.
Instructions
-
Dog
-
1
Place a sheet of origami paper on a hard surface with its colored side down and one corner facing toward you.
-
2
Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner. Crease, then unfold.
-
-
3
Fold in the tips of the right and left corners approximately 1/2 inch if you are using standard-sized origami paper. If you are using larger or smaller paper, fold them in just enough to square the corners.
-
4
Fold the bottom corner up approximately 1 1/2 inches, or enough to form a proportionally-sized dog muzzle.
-
5
Fold the model in half from top to bottom on the crease line you previously made. The model should now look like a triangle with its point facing down.
-
6
Fold up the bottom corner approximately 1 1/2 inches. The lower edges of the top and bottom layers should now match, and there should be a white triangle at the bottom of each side of the model. The top triangle forms the dog's muzzle.
-
7
Fold the top corners down at an angle to form the dog's ears.
-
8
Draw eyes and a nose on the dog's face. Set this model aside.
-
9
Place another piece of origami paper in front of you with its colored side down.
-
10
Fold the top right corner down to meet the bottom left corner.
-
11
Fold the left edge of the triangle toward the right. This fold should crease the paper approximately 1/6 of the way across its width.
-
12
Open up the layers created by the previous fold. Press the top point downward and flatten it into a diamond.
-
13
Fold the right corner toward the left and crease it approximately 3/8 of the way across the model.
-
14
Fold the tip of the left corner upward and to the right so that it falls off the edge of the model at a slight angle.
-
15
Undo the previous two folds, but do not smooth the creases.
-
16
Open up the bottom of the model and pinch the first crease on the front and back layers so that it folds upward into a mountain.
-
17
Place your finger in the center of the second crease and press inward, then grasp the tip of the corner and push inward. The creases should fold in on top of themselves. Press them shut so that only the tip sticks out from the rest of the dog's body. This forms the tail.
-
18
Glue the dog's head onto the body.
Cat
-
19
Place a sheet of origami paper on a hard surface with its colored side down.
-
20
Fold the top right corner down to meet the bottom left corner.
-
21
Fold the tip of the right corner upward at an angle to form the tail. Set this model of the cat's body aside.
-
22
Place another sheet of origami paper in front of you with its colored side down and one corner facing you.
-
23
Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
-
24
Fold the peak of the triangle downward.
-
25
Fold the bottom corners upward at an angle so that they protrude off the edges of the model on both sides of the downward triangle. These form the cat's ears.
-
26
Turn the model over and draw a face.
-
27
Glue the head onto the body to complete the cat.
