How to Make Keychain Lanyards With Friendship Bracelet String

The string used to make friendship bracelets is normally embroidery floss or plastic string. You can make a key chain lanyard using the same material and methods, but not joining the final product around a wrist, but rather attaching a key chain to it. Making a key chain lanyard from the string requires weaving and knotting the strings together to create a box pattern.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out matching lengths of two different colored pieces of cord. Place the cords side-by-side. Make a loop by folding the cords in half. Form a cross in the strands in the middle of the loop.

    • 2

Fold the lower strand back over the top one. Feed the end of the other strand over the folded one. Do the same with the other color. Feed the first color cord end over the first strand and under the next one of the other color. Tighten the knot.

    • 3

Create two loops by folding the two strands of one color in opposite directions over the top of the knot. Feed the other colored strands over the top of the first loop and into the second in opposite directions. Do the same with the other color. Continue to repeat the process until you have made your key chain as long as you want.

Loop the grouped strands at the end of the key chain. Feed the loose ends of the key chain through the loop, back around the neck of the loop, over and back into the loop. Pull the knot tight to create a bowline knot with a loop in the end to hold the key chain. Attach the key chain to the loop.
