How to Make a Puppet That Can Be Glued to a Popsicle Stick
Popsicle puppets are a tool for children to practice essential communication skills and interactive play. This craft project is done with minimal craft experience, making it an ideal activity for small children, and the necessary materials are readily available. Use coloring book characters, magazine models or family photos to build the puppet. Making craft stick puppets helps pass the time on a rainy afternoon or provides an imaginative way to both entertain and educate any child.

- Coloring book pictures, magazines or photographs
- Crayons
- Colored construction paper
- Fabric scraps
- White glue
- Wiggle eyes
- Markers
- Popsicle or craft sticks

Cut out characters from coloring books, magazines or photographs.

Color a coloring book pictures with crayons. Cut out additional shapes like clothing, handheld items, accessories or hats for the puppet from colored construction paper or fabric scraps. Encourage the child to think about what the puppet might wear or carry such as a purse, cell phone or jump rope -- anything to give the puppet its own personality.

Glue the pieces of the puppet together and glue wiggle eyes onto the puppet's face; allow it to dry fully for 10 to 15 minutes. Color additional details like buttons, freckles or shoelaces on the puppet's face, clothing and body with markers.

Turn the puppet face down on a flat surface. Pour white glue onto the back of the finished puppet.

Place a craft stick one to two inches up the back of the puppet and press it firmly into the glue; allow the glue to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
Decorate the puppet with glitter, pipe cleaners, rhinestones or feathers.
Give puppets hair by gluing yarn under a construction paper hat and stapling or gluing the hat to the puppet.
Glue fabric scrap clothing, wiggle eyes and other pieces directly to the craft stick. Draw a smile, freckles or buttons on the stick with a marker to complete the puppet.
Supervise children while they're using scissors and working with small craft materials so they avoid cutting themselves or choking on items.
