How to Get Lines Out of a Rayon Shirt Caused by the Washing Machine

An iron can be used on a rayon shirt if it's not too hot.

Rayon can be a little more difficult to care for than other types of fabric. When you wash your rayon shirt in the washing machine, it might come out covered with creases and lines. Rayon is a fragile fabric that can be easily damaged. It has a shiny appearance, and applying heat directly to the surface to remove wrinkles can cause the fabric to lose its shine and appear dull or worn. This means you need to be extra careful about how you get those lines out of the fabric.

• Pressing cloth

Instructions

1. Remove the lines from your rayon shirt while it's still damp from the wash. The lines will be easier to remove when the shirt is damp than when it's dry.

2. Set your iron to a very low heat setting. Some irons have a special setting for fabrics such as rayon.

3. Turn your rayon shirt inside out. The iron should only be pressed against the inside.

4. Place a pressing cloth over the area with lines. This is an added precaution that can help prevent damage from the iron.

5. Press your iron against the pressing cloth, and move it steadily and consistently across the fabric. Maintain constant motion and gentle pressure.

6. Check the rayon shirt once you've ironed over it. Go over any areas that still have lines, continuing to keep the pressing cloth between the shirt and the iron.

Tips & Warnings

• If your rayon shirt is already dry, mist it with a little water to dampen the fabric before ironing.
