How to Make a Clickable Link in Dreamweaver CS5

Using Dreamweaver CS5 to create your website means starting with a single page and going forward, but you and your website visitors won't get very far if your site consists of only that single page. With Internet surfers conditioned to click as they go, you'll want to have clickable links on your Web pages. Making a clickable link in Dreamweaver CS5 is as simple as making two decisions -- what viewers should be clicking and where they should be going.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Adobe Dreamweaver CS5. Click the "HTML" link on the welcome screen.

    • 2

Type the text to render into a clickable link, such as "Click here."

    • 3

Highlight the text. Right-click and select "Make Link."

    • 4

Pull down the "Look in" menu on the "Select File" window and browse to the location of the file, page, image or other item that the viewer will be taken to upon clicking the link.

    • 5

Double-click the item. The "Select File" window closes and the text is now blue and underlined, symbolizing it is a link. If a path message comes up, click "OK."

    • 6

Open the "Property Inspector" at the bottom of the page working area if it is not already open. Check the "Link" text box to view that your link is in place.

    • 7

Test the link by clicking the small drop-down menu on the earth icon at the top of the workspace. Click "Preview in Iexplore" or your preferred browser setting. Click the link.
