How to Knot a Pearl Strand
A pearl necklace is a timeless addition to almost any jewelry box. Over time, the strings on pearl necklaces can become worn and fall apart. Whether you need to replace a string on an old necklace, or want to create a new one, you can learn how to knot the string so that the beads do not scatter in case the necklace pops. Cut the beads off of the old string before beginning and use a bowl or beading tray to keep them from rolling around.

1
Cut a 10-inch length of the thread and separate the fibers into four pieces. Thread one of the thin strands through the eye of the needle. Tie a knot on the end so you have a loop of thread on your needle.
-
2
Cut a length of thread that is three times as long as the desired length for your necklace. Fold it in half and put the loose ends through the loop on the needle. Thread the clasp for the necklace onto the needle, and reloop through the loop in the thread. Guide the knot as close to the clasp as possible and pull tight.

3
Thread all of the pearls onto the string and remove the needle. Tie the loose ends of your necklace together. You should have a long, loosely beaded necklace.
-
4
Tie a knot as close as possible to the first pearl, beginning with the ones closest to the clasp. Hold the loop down on the pearl and pull it tight to get the knot as close as possible to your pearl. Continue knotting until all of the pearls are knotted in place.

5
Thread the other end of the clasp onto the string. Tie it tightly and trim away excess string.
