How to Make a Homemade Bullhorn

How to Make a Homemade Bullhorn thumbnail
A homemade bullhorn can be made with a simple plastic milk bottle.

A bullhorn, sometimes also called a megaphone, is a device used to amplify your voice and spread it across a great distance. Bullhorns are used at a variety of events such as ballgames, pep rallies, fund-raisers and other sporting functions. Children are also fascinated with bullhorns and the way the device changes the sound of their voice. With just a few simple steps, you can make an inexpensive bullhorn for your child to experiment with.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse out a half-gallon plastic milk container, making sure all the milk is completely removed. If using an empty bleach bottle, make sure all bleach is completely rinsed out and allow the container to dry thoroughly and set for a few days.

    • 2

Wrap a large rubber band around the outside of the empty container, approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the container. The rubber band will be your guide for cutting the container, so measure it all the way around the bottom with a ruler to make sure it is even.

    • 3

Cut off the bottom of the plastic container with a sharp pair of scissors using the rubber band as a cutting guide. It is best for an adult to do the cutting and not a child.

    • 4

Decorate the container by using a hot glue gun to apply decorative patches, team logo patches or glitter. You can also glue on items such as small pom-poms, sequins or beads. Use craft glue to spell out words on the container.

    • 5

Hold the container by the handle and place your lips at the spout. Talk into the spout and notice how your voice is amplified through your very own homemade bullhorn.
