How to Deal With Undermining Colleagues
If you are like most, you want to work with people who are positive and supportive. Sometimes, however, you have to work with people who undermine everything you do. Whether it's the project you've been working on or your new haircut, they always have something negative to say. 1
Ignore his undermining statements. No matter what he says to you, don't let his words affect your self-esteem. Talk to a close friend or a therapist if his comments are bringing you down.
-
2
Suggest good ideas in work meetings. Do not present an idea in front of your boss or colleagues unless you are sure it is solid and original. Don't leave an opening for a colleague to undermine you.

3
Talk to the undermining colleague in private. Ask him to step outside of the office with you, or invite him to lunch. Tell him that you don't appreciate his undermining comments, and that you want him to stop. Provide specific examples of times his behavior was inappropriate.

Set up a private meeting with your boss if your colleague refuses to change his behavior. Tell your boss how the colleague has been undermining you, and how it affects your time at work. Let him know that you want the colleague's behavior to stop, so you can be more productive at work.
