How to Apply Tightening Gel to My Dreadlocks

How to Apply Tightening Gel to My Dreadlocks thumbnail
Tightening gel can help dreadlocks stay together.

Dreadlocks are locks of twisted hair styled into individual rolls. Once the dreadlocks are created, this is a fairly low-maintenance hairstyle for people who have at least three inches of hair. You will only need to wash your hair once or twice a week and, beyond occasionally twisting and applying tightening gel, dreadlocks will stay in place. Hair will naturally dread in places if left unmanaged, but there are several ways to create neat dreadlocks manually. To prevent wisps of hair from escaping the dreadlocks and to deal with frizzy hair, people with dreadlocks can use tightening gel after washing their hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Wash and towel dry hair.

    • 2

Put a small amount of tightening gel in your hands. A pea-sized amount should be enough for one or two dreads.

    • 3

Work the gel into your damp dreadlocks, one at a time. Try to avoid your scalp, as it may cause dandruff.

    • 4

Allow hair to dry naturally or use a hairdryer that is set to low.

    • 5

Use gel after each time you wash your hair, but no more than twice a week.
