You can access your wireless network in remote parts of your office after you install and configure the Hawking HWREN1

Hawking Tech's Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender (model HWREN1) increases the range of your wireless router. Once you connect it to your router, this range extender intensifies and re-transmits your wireless signal. The amplified signal then reaches parts of your home or place of business that are beyond the normal range of your wireless router. The HWREN1 also increases the speed of your wireless Internet connection. It is compatible with the 802.11b, g and n wireless standards. Once you install the extender on your network, you can enjoy extended Internet access with just about any Wi-Fi-enabled device.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw each of the two detachable antennas securely into each of the threaded antenna holder ports at each end of the router. Make sure the antennas stand straight. Do not over-tighten.

    • 2

Plug the Hawking HWREN1 AC adapter into any nearby electrical outlet.

    • 3

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the "Network" port on the back panel of your range extender. Plug the other end of the cable into a free LAN port on your wireless router or switch.

    • 4

Insert the round connector at the end of the AC adapter into the round jack on the rear panel of your HWREN1. Depending on your particular version of range extender, the power jack is either just to the right of the left antenna and labeled "12VDC" -- or it is just to the left of the right antenna and labeled "Power."

    • 5

Check the LED indicator lights on the front panel of your range extender. The "PWR" and "LAN" lights should be lit. Recheck the cabling and make sure the cable connectors are firmly seated in their proper ports, if the "LAN" lights are not lit. Plug the AC adapter into a different outlet if the "PWR" light is not lit -- even though you have inserted the round connector plug firmly into the power jack.

    • 6

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port or card of your computer, and the other end to a free LAN port on your wireless router. Connect your broadband (DSL or cable) modem to your router according to the instructions supplied with both devices. Turn your computer on.

    • 7

Insert the setup CD-ROM provided with the Hawking range extender into the computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Wait a few moments for the auto-load page to appear.

    • 8

Click the "Setup wizard" prompt at the top-right of the auto-load page and follow the setup instructions. Have your router security settings available to enter into the second-to-last (seventh) installation screen.

    • 9

Click "Set" to reboot at the end of the process when the configured settings appear and you have checked them to make sure they are correct.

    • 10

Use the wireless function of any available portable device to detect the wireless signal. Move the range extender so that it provides a strong signal where you need it. Use an extension cord or longer cable, if necessary -- but do not position the extender too far from your router.

    • 11

Click the wireless network icon in your Windows system tray followed by the "View wireless networks" button on the screen that appears. Click the "Wireless network" icon (four inverted waves) at the top of the "Finder" on your Mac screen. Click "Hawking_300D" on the list of available networks. You can now enjoy your extended wireless network.
