How to Tag to a Friend's Wall & Not the Feed

How to Tag to a Friend's Wall & Not the Feed thumbnail
Every Facebook user sees a different news feed of friends and pages.

Facebook lets you tag new posts with the names of specific friends you wish to include in the conversation. When you tag a friend, his name appears as a link to his Facebook profile. By default, the post appears on your own wall and your friend's wall, as well as in the news feeds of your friends and the tagged friend's friends. The only way to guarantee a tagged Facebook wall post does not appear in third-party news feeds is to make the post private between you and the tagged friend.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into Facebook, click inside the status box at the top of the screen and start composing a post in which you will tag a friend.

    • 2

Type "@" anywhere in the post, followed immediately by the name of the friend who you want to tag. Click the friend's name when it appears below your cursor. This tags the friend.

    • 3

Click the padlock icon below the text box and select "Customize" from the drop-down menu that appears. This opens a custom privacy panel for this post.

    • 4

Click the drop-down menu in the custom privacy panel and select "Only Me," and then click the "Save Setting" button at the bottom of the panel.

    • 5

Click the "Share" button below the text box to tag the post and post to your friend's wall. You and your friend will be able to see the post on your own walls and news feeds, but it will not appear to anyone else.
