How to Make a Mohawk Hairstyle With Straight Hair
A Mohawk haircut is created when all of the hair on the sides of the head are shaved, leaving only a narrow strip of hair centered on the scalp from the front hairline to the nape of the neck. The strip of hair that remains can be of varying lengths, which determines what type of Mohawk hairstyle will be created. One such style is the fanhawk, which is a long Mohawk that is styled heavily with styling gel so that it fans, or sticks straight up and out. Creating a Mohawk hairstyle can done with electric clippers and other hair styling tools. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Determine how long the hair of the Mohawk should be after cutting and how wide of a strip should be left on top of the scalp. Brush or comb the hair in the direction the hair is growing. Use a detangling comb to remove any tangles.

2
Part the hair into sections, starting with the hair on one side of the head away from the where the Mohawk will be. Use the wide teeth of a cutting comb to part the hair on one side of the head from the front hairline to the nape of the neck. Attach a hair clip to the sectioned side panel of hair. Repeat for the other side of the head, then secure the top section of hair with a hair clip.

Set the electric clippers to their lowest setting and remove a hair clip from one side of the head. Shave all the hair on that side to the predetermined point where the Mohawk will begin on top from the front hairline to the nape of the neck. Shave under and around the ear and along the neck below the neckline as well. Repeat for the other side of the head. Verify that both ends of the Mohawk are shaved equally and if not, even them out -- carefully.

Secure a large clipper gate to the electric clippers. Run the clippers along the surface of the Mohawk to cut it to an even length. Use scissors instead of the electric clippers if a longer Mohawk is desired. Trim any ragged hairs with scissors to smooth out the Mohawk on top, in the front and at the back.
