Instructions

    • 1

Apply a hot oil treatment. Make an appointment for a salon hot-oil treatment or make your own from household products. To make your own treatment, combine 1 tablespoon each of canola and olive oil. Heat the oil mixture in the microwave to a comfortable temperature and apply it to your hair with your hands. Comb through your hair with a wide-tooth comb for better coverage. Wrap your hair for 30 minutes in a shower cap or towel before rinsing out the oil and washing your hair with a mild shampoo.

    • 2

Hydrate hair by applying a hair mask. Apply the mask to wet hair, combing through with a wide-tooth comb for even coverage. Rinse the mask out of your hair after 15-30 minutes and apply a leave-in conditioner. Create your own mask by mashing half an avocado, one banana and an egg together, combined with 2 tablespoons of honey and 3 tablespoons each of extra virgin olive oil and buttermilk.

Condition hair two to three times a week by applying a deep moisturizing conditioner after shampooing. Allow the conditioner to set on your hair for three to five minutes, according to directions on the bottle or tube. Rinse out the conditioner and rewash your hair, if necessary. If you have especially dry hair, you can use a combination shampoo and conditioner or just conditioner on a daily basis. Reduce conditioning frequency if your hair becomes oily quickly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a few drops of scented oil to your homemade hot oil treatment, if desired.

  • Avoid blow-drying hair, which pulls moisturizing, natural and product oils out of your hair.
