Conduct a wire transfer to the IRS online through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System.

It's always nice to receive a refund from the IRS. However, there are times when you have to make a payment, instead. The IRS makes it convenient for you to pay your taxes to Uncle Sam. You have the choice of making a payment by mail, over the telephone, by credit or debit card, or electronically. The IRS uses the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or EFTPS, for wire transfers and online payments. The system is available to individuals and businesses.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the required information you will need and go to the EFTPS website. Once on the website, select the option that fits your situation, such as whether you are enrolling as a business or individual taxpayer.

    • 2

Enter required information, including your business name and contact details as they appear on your tax forms. The website will ask for your Social Security number if you're enrolling as an individual, or your employer identification number if you're enrolling as a business. You also need to submit your bank's routing number and checking account number.

    • 3

Wait to receive your personal identification number by mail to begin accessing your EFTPS account. Once you receive your PIN, contact EFTPS at 1-800-555-8778 to obtain a temporary password. Use your temporary password to access the system, but create a unique password once you're logged in -- one that you can remember. Keep your password in a safe place.

Complete the wire transfer by going back to the EFTPS website. Click the "Make a Payment" link from the main page. Follow the instructions to complete the payment. Print off the confirmation page and keep it for your records.
