DIY Powder Deodorant
According to the Federal Drug Administration, the use of aluminum in deodorants, one of the most common ingredients in store-bought brands to prevent perspiration, is not safe. The FDA warns that this ingredients is not only a neuro-toxic metal, but it also increases the risk for and worsens Alzheimer's disease. Fortunately, individuals can make their own powdered deodorant at home that is all-natural, and just as effective as any manufactured deodorant. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1-1/2 cups corn starch
- Container with lid
- 10 drops essential oil

Pour 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1-1/2 cups of corn starch in a 16 ounce container that has a lid.

Add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to the powdered deodorant to create a pleasing scent. Essential oils that work well in deodorant recipes include lavender, rose geranium, ylang ylang, tea tree, and violet leaf.

Close the lid to your homemade powdered deodorant, and shake vigorously to combine the ingredients.

Using a soft cloth or cotton ball, dab a small amount of the homemade deodorant under each armpit once per day.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't like your deodorant completely dry, add 1/4 cup of coconut oil or 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel to the mixture in the step where you add essential oils. You will need to stir to combine the ingredients.
