Check the exterior and interior of the helmet for approval stamps from the American military. 90 percent of helmets used in the military are Gentex units and the military is the only body that approves these helmets as a standard.

Purchase a Gentex helmet from an official Gentex retailer, such as Gentex itself or Gibson and Barnes. The retailer will be able to tell you if they are certified and if the helmet is indeed an official Gentex helmet.
