Troubleshoot your Linksys E3000 wireless router's connectivity issues.

The Linksys E3000, a dual-band wireless router made by Cisco, is optimized to connect to several multimedia devices simultaneously. This includes a laptop, PlayStation 3, Xbox and most wireless-enabled Blu-ray players. With several wireless devices connected simultaneously, it's common for the E3000 to suffer connectivity and data speed issues. Many of these issues can be solved with simple troubleshooting and basic configuration.

Instructions

  1. General Troubleshooting

    • 1

Check that the power cable is firmly connected to the back of the router. Make sure the power is turned on.

    • 2

Examine the front of the router. If the LED light is flashing, unplug the cable modem, power down the computer and unplug the router's power cable. Then power on each device in consecutive order: cable modem, router, computer.

    • 3

Open your preferred web browser. Click the "Tools" drop-down menu, click "Internet Options" and select the "Connections" tab in the window. Click the "Never Dial Connection" option and click the "OK" button.

    Changing Router Settings

    • 4

      Power on your computer.

    • 5

Open the "Cisco Connect" utility application you downloaded when you installed the router. If this is not installed, insert the installation DVD into your computer's optical drive and follow the on-screen installation directions.

    • 6

Click the "Router Settings" menu followed by "Advanced Settings." Your router's username and password will be displayed on the screen. Write down the username and password.

    • 7

Click the "OK" button. Your default web browser opens automatically. Enter the username and password when prompted.
