How to Deactivate an AT&T GPS
Many AT&T cellphones come with GPS that you can use to get turn-by-turn directions to your destination, receive weather updates based on your location and other features for applications with location-specific functionality. The GPS feature is helpful but drains your battery, even when you're not currently using the GPS function of an application. You can deactivate the GPS on your AT&T phone to save battery life. Turning off the GPS is different for each AT&T cellphone, but the settings are generally found in the same location.

1
Turn on and unlock your AT&T phone.

2
Locate the GPS setting on your phone. On most AT&T phones, you'll find the GPS setting in the "Settings" or "Applications" menu. Many phones refer to the GPS setting as "Location Services," or similar terminology. For example, the GPS setting on the iPhone is under the "Location Services" menu, while on the Motorola Flipside the GPS setting is found in "Location & Security." A third example is the Palm Pixi Plus, which uses "Locate Me Using." Each phone is different, but the terminology is similar.

Select "Off" or the check box next to the GPS setting to activate GPS. When you select the check box, the check mark disappears from the setting. Again, the terminology used for the GPS setting is different from phone to phone. For example, the iPhone again labels it as "Location Services." The Motorola Flipside refers to it as "Use GPS Satellites." The Palm Pixi Plus uses "GPS."
