How to List Dependents on an IRS Return
The IRS requires that you provide specific information about your dependents on your tax return to receive the benefits of claiming them. An eligible dependent may be either your qualifying child or qualifying relative. A qualifying child may be your biological child or a niece, nephew, brother, sister or grandchild that lives with and receives support from you. A qualifying relative may be a dependent of any age that lives with and receives support from you, but who also earns less than $3,650 of his own money during the year.
